Heathland Lichens in the New Forest and Beyond

For years I have concentrated on the exceptionally lichen rich woodlands of The New Forest, but a job recording lichens in randomly chosen plots on the heathlands for the Natural History Museum (NHM) concentrated my attention on the New Forest heaths. I had last looked at these seriously with Francis Rose in the 1980s and early 1990s. The result has been a cascade of exciting finds. These will be detailed here, along with identification tips and descriptions of species ecology.
