Introduction

Group-at-Ogdens-2011-10-15-13
The group at Ogdens, New Forest 15/10/2011, just after discovering the second modern lowland record of Cladonia phyllophora

The Group

The Wessex Lichen Group is an informal group meeting irregularly, and often at short notice, to study and record lichens in Hampshire, The Isle of Wight, Dorset and Wiltshire. Meetings are "organised" by the region's experienced lichenologists when they find the time. The group functions as an email list run by Neil Sanderson, to join email Neil (address at bottom of page) to be added to the list, but notifications will also be put up on the website.

Those interested in lichens at any level are welcome. If possible bring a hand lens, if you have one, about x8 to x10 magnification will do.

Meetings

Any suggestions as to suitable sites for meetings welcome.

The Site

The website is under construction, the aim is to announce meetings, put up meeting reports and have pages on lichen identification, ecology and conservation.

For lichen discussion visit and join the Yahoo groups UK Lichens and Scottish Lichenology. These will probably eventually moved and merge to a forum on the new British Lichen Society website.

Note

For readers of the Fallen Beech article by Cross & Sanderson in the British Lichen Society Bulletin, 111, Winter 2012, 54 - 60, the full species list can be found by following this link.
