April 2013: Teloschistes chrysophthalmus found near Petersfield

A fourth locality for Goldeneyes Teloschistes chrysophthalmus has been found by Ron Allen on a planted Dog Rose by Blackthorn scrub on the south side of the A272. This is much further inland than the other Hampshire localities being north of the downs and in the Weald. It is a similar position to Simon Davey's Ditchling site, in Sussex but even further inland. It is also very nearly a new vice-county record, but is on the wrong side of the A272, which forms the boundary between North and South Hampshire. Dog Rose is also a new substrate.

The Petersfield Goldeneyes Teloschistes chrysophthalmus

I have now had some thoughts on the history and ecology of Teloschistes chrysophthalmus and will put them up here.
